Kidney Disease

kidney diseaseKidney disease is one of the most serious kidney problems. It constitutes a dangerous health threat resulting from damage to the nephrons, the tiny structures inside your kidneys that filter blood.

Damage from kidney disease often takes place over a long period of time. Both kidneys are usually affected.

Often, no symptoms of this kidney problem occur until serious damage has already been done. Kidneys can function when they are 85 percent damaged, and there will be few signs that anything is wrong.

Causes of kidney disease

Diabetes In diabetes cases, the human body doesn't use glucose, or sugar, the way it should. Glucose remains in the blood and actually begins to react with the body like a toxin. Kidney disease can be a very dangerous problem for diabetics.

High blood pressure, which is also known as hypertension. High blood pressure can damage blood vessels in the kidneys, compromising their function.

Heredity Genetics appears to play a role in kidney health. Most people who have ever suffered from kidney stones usually have several relatives who have them too. You may be at a higher risk for kidney disease if there are other people in your family who have had it.
