Kidney Disease, and Diabetes and Kidney Stones
Video
In this three-minute video, Dr. James McCarthy from the famed Mayo Clinic answers two important questions
about kidney disease as it relates diabetes and to certain kinds of kidney stones.
These questions were raised during a Mayo Clinic Medical Edge Weekend TV program on kidney
disease, but there was not enough time to answer them during the program.
Individuals with diabetes have a high risk for developing kidney disease. Approximately half of all diabetes
patients are unaware of this risk and fail to seek advice or treatment they need to keep their kidneys healthy. two
out of every five patients who are dealing with diabetes eventually develop chronic kidney disease? Symptoms are
not apparent, and often develop so late that the kidneys are often near failure before they are
diagnosed.
